Tesla Is Now Taking Pre-orders for Its Fully-Electric Semi Truck
Tesla first unveiled the prototype of its Semi electric truck back in 2017. Now, five years later, Elon Musk's company has opened up reservations for its upcoming truck, which is scheduled to go into production in 2023.
The corresponding pre-order page is now available on Tesla's official website. The initial payment to make a reservation is $20,000 – $5,000 should be paid upfront, and another $15,000 should be paid within 10 days of making the initial payment.
The company says the truck can accelerate from zero to 60 miles per hour in 20 seconds when fully loaded. The all-electric vehicle will also be powered by four independent motors on the rear axles, and have a battery range of either 300 or 500 miles.
The 300-mile version of the Semi will cost $150,000, while the 500-mile one will cost $180,000.
There is no exact start date for shipments yet, and Semi's production start dates and specs could still change.
