Elon Musk Expects Neuralink to Start Its First Human Trial This Year
Elon Musk, the founder and CEO of Neuralink, announced plans to begin human trials of brain implants this year during his participation in the VivaTech conference in Paris.
The first volunteers for the trials will be patients suffering from limb mobility issues. Neuralink obtained the necessary regulatory approval from authorities in the United States last month to conduct brain implant surgeries. This permission also includes the use of surgical robots during the procedures.
The surgical robots will create small openings in the patients' skulls, implant the devices, and connect them to the cortex of the brain using thin electrodes.
The introduction of brain implants in humans marks a significant milestone for Neuralink and represents a major step forward in its mission to develop technology that can interface directly with the human brain.
Elon Musk's announcement at the VivaTech conference highlighted the progress made by Neuralink and its commitment to revolutionizing brain-computer interfaces. By enabling direct communication between the brain and external devices, Neuralink's technology holds tremendous potential for helping individuals with various neurological conditions regain mobility and enhance cognitive abilities.
