A Bloody Hollywood Story About What Happened 50 Years Ago Directed by Tarantino
The well-known film director Quentin Tarantino said that he will retire after he completes his 10th film. That is why his 9th feature film called “Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood” is a 161-minute movie full of breathtaking shots, unique dialogues, wry humor, and, of course, carnage. Tarantino at his finest. This movie can be seen as Quentin’s declaration of love for cinematography. This is a movie about cinema in which you can see how the movies are born.
Let me hasten to say that if you’re not a big fan of Tarantino’s films, don’t waste your time sitting in the cinema and writing a negative review afterwards. Especially if you didn’t hear about what was happening in the not-so-distant year of 1969.
“Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood” is a story that tells us about the events in the summer of 1969. There were youth-led protests against the Vietnam War, the hippie movement, the sexual revolution of the late 60s, illegal drug use, and the peace movement.
At the same time, there was Charles Manson, the leader of the Manson Family cult, who wanted to start a race war by committing murders of famous rich white people. His choice fell on Sharon Tate, the actress, who was also the wife of a Polish film director Roman Polanski. Tate and her friends died after being stabbed numerous times by The Family. Along with Sharon died the sixties.
I can’t really say that I will watch this movie again and again, but there’s no doubt this motion picture is worth the time. The cast is outstanding, too! “Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood” features Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt, Margot Robbie, Al Pacino, and Luke Perry who can, unfortunately, be seen here for the last time.
In fact, at the time of writing the film has an impressive 92% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The Times has even described “Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood” as a “retro tour de force”.
Even critics’ early reactions to the movie were positive enough. A premiere during the Cannes Film Festival received a standing ovation and more than five minutes of applause.
