Even After 10 Years, GTA V Is Still on the Top 20 List of Best-Selling Games in the US
GTA V became the longest-running chart-topper in the last decade. Since 2013, GTA V has spanned two console generations and a PC release, all of which were monetized with full game sales.
Summing up the past decade, NPD Group analyst Mat Piscatella found that Grand Theft Auto V made it to the top 20 best-selling games in the US 74 times out of 75 possible.
Rockstar Games released GTA V more than six years ago, in September 2013, but it did not stop the game from taking the 19th place in the twenty most sold games list in the United States in November 2019.
The only month when Grand Theft Auto V did not hit the top 20 chart was October 2014. Previously, it was reported that Rockstar's sales exceeded 115 million copies.
GTA Online is still a revenue monster thanks to the new Diamond Casino Resort update.
Now, Rockstar is eager to make history repeat itself. Currently, the company is developing Grand Theft Auto 6, and it will likely be built from the ground up for the next-generation PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X consoles. Rockstar has been hiring for new games for a while now, and reports say GTA 6 could span both Vice City and Liberty City in an over-arching storyline.
GTA 6 is expected to be monetized with as similar online mode, and it could even connect directly to the GTA V's online multiplayer for seamless cross-game action.
