Google "Revived" Dinosaurs From Jurassic World Through Augmented Reality

The library of Google's AR objects has been replenished with very prominent models. In partnership with Universal Brand Development, Amblin Entertainment, and Ludia, the search giant transferred ten dinosaurs of the famous Jurassic World franchise directly to search results.

Ludia technology from the Jurassic World Alive video game was used to create the models. Concept artists previously collected information about each creature. In the process of creation, they worked closely with paleontologists and the Jurassic World team to make the models as accurate as possible and reproduce the smallest details, such as skin color and its structure.

This video demonstrates the main stages: 3D-modeling, texturing, and creating animations, using the example of creating a Brachiosaurus model for AR.

Experts created ten realistic virtual dinosaur models on Google’s augmented reality platform: Tyrannosaurus rex, Velociraptor, Triceratops, Spinosaurus, Stegosaurus, Brachiosaurus, Ankylosaurus, Dilophosaurus, Pteranodon, and Parasaurolophus. All of these ancient reptiles can be seen in AR directly in the Google search engine.

Using the "View in 3D" feature, you can transfer the dinosaur into a real environment for further interaction. You can adjust its size to understand how it compares to objects from the real space. By increasing the volume on Android, you can hear each of the dinosaurs' footsteps and roar. It is also possible to create AR videos or playback your favorite scenes from the Jurassic World series using the recording option.

How to access dinosaurs from the Jurassic World:

  • On Android: Search the word "dinosaur" or the name of one of these ten dinosaurs in the Google app or any Android browser and click "View in 3D". For viewing search results in 3D, a smartphone with Android 7.0 or later is suitable, but support for the ARCore platform is required for interaction.
