Handy Tips: How to Prevent Sites From Tracking Your Location on iPhone and Mac
In Handy Tips, we find ways to improve your life and make it easier and explain why these tips work. Today, we will tell you how to stop websites from tracking your location on iPhone and Mac.
Many sites and services request information about the user's geolocation when users visit them. This not only gives out your location for the necessary and unnecessary resources, but also drains your smartphone's battery on GPS.
How to stop websites from tracking location on iPhone:
- Open Settings on your iPhone.
- Scroll down to Privacy.
- Tap on Location Services.
- Scroll to Safari Websites.
- Choose the suitable option.
If you select While Using the App, the data will be provided to the sites that make such a request. If you choose Never, sites will not be able to receive data about your geolocation. If you select Ask Next Time, you will see a dialog box next time you visit a website that asks for your geolocation.
In 99% of cases, the location for sites in the browser on the iPhone is not needed. All services that need to know your location (navigators, delivery services, bank clients) are available as applications.
How to stop websites from tracking location on Mac:
- Open Safari and click on the Safari tab in the top menu-bar.
- Select Preferences in the drop-down menu.
- Click on Websites and select Location in the left pane.
- In the right pane, select the Deny option or the Ask option, making the websites ask for permission to track your location.
Most often, separate applications for navigators, bank clients, or online stores are not used on Mac. If a service needs permission to track your location, you can grant it the first time you visit the site or in Safari settings.
