Sony Releases the Biggest Game Console for $499.99

Finally, Sony announced the exact prices and launch date for the next generation of PlayStation consoles at the company’s presentation. Previous leaks have been confirmed: Sony has priced the base PlayStation 5 and the PlayStation 5 Digital Edition at $499 and $399, respectively. The sales of the consoles will start on November 12.

The PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Digital Edition will compete directly with the Xbox Series S and Xbox Series X, which will be released on November 10.

The company has previously held a similar presentation. More exact details about the game console were expected on June 11, but instead, Sony only showed game trailers back then.

This time, Sony revealed not only the next-gen console's price and release date but also all specs that include the console's dimensions. PS5 is approximately 390mm (15.4 inches) tall, 260mm (10.24 inches) deep, and 104mm (4.09 inches) wide. It makes the PS5 the biggest game console ever.


Besides, Sony announced the launching line of games:

  1. Astro's Playroom (Japan Studio) will be preinstalled on PS5
  2. Demon's Souls (Bluepoint Games / Japan Studio) for $69.99
  3. Destruction AllStars (Lucid Games / XDEV) for $69.99
  4. Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales (Insomniac Games) for $49.99
  5. Marvel's Spider-Man: Mile Morales Ultimate Edition (Insomniac Games) for $69.99
  6. Sackboy: A Big Adventure (Sumo Digital / XDEV) for $59.99

Games that will be available on PS4:

  1. Spider-Man: Miles Morales
  2. Horizon: Forbidden West
  3. Sackboy: A Big Adventure

Simultaneously, Sony announced the PlayStation Plus Collection, its answer to the Xbox Game Pass. PS Plus subscribers on PS5 will receive a collection of major titles for free.

At the end of the presentation, Sony announced the highly anticipated sequel to God of War. The sequel was subtitled Ragnarok. There is only a teaser so far. The game will be released in 2021.
