Robotics Startup Figure Unveils Its New AI-Powered Humanoid Robot
Figure, an AI robotics startup founded in 2022, officially unveiled its new AI-powered humanoid robot dubbed Figure 01, designed to address ongoing labor shortages and eventually undertake labor-intensive or unsafe physical tasks.
The robot's distinctive feature is an artificial intelligence system that allows it to think, learn, and interact with its environment and people around it and improve its capabilities over time.
Figure 01 is not designed for one specific task – it can be reprogrammed to perform many human-oriented tasks. Thus, it can go from basic tasks like lifting and carrying goods to more advanced tasks like doing the hard work that people can't or don't like doing.
"We believe general-purpose humanoid robots have far more potential than single-purpose robots, which are currently ubiquitous within the field," explains Brett Adcock, founder and CEO of Figure. "In early development, the tasks Figure's humanoids complete will be structured and repetitive, but over time, and with advancements in robot learning and software, we will expand capabilities and eventually see tasks being performed better than humans."
According to the company, Figure 01 can be initially used to perform a wide range of tasks in various industries, such as manufacturing, logistics, retail, shipping, and warehousing. In the future, the robot could also play an important role in more areas, such as caring for the elderly, assisting in the home, or even being used in space to build new worlds.
