Amazon Studios Acquired Sacha Baron Cohen's Borat Sequel
The sequel to the iconic and provocative socio-political satire Borat by Sacha Baron Cohen will be released on Amazon Prime Video for its subscribers in 240 countries at the end of October. The sequel will premiere before the US presidential election between President Trump and former Vice President Joe Biden, which will take place on November 3.
Cohen secretly arranged the shooting of the film after COVID-19 overtook the United States. The British comedian has hosted pre-screenings for select figures in the film industry. But the pandemic and the closure of cinemas across the United States predetermined the outcome of negotiations with distributors, which reached an impasse. That's why Amazon came into play and acquired streaming rights.
Little is known about the sequel to Borat, except its official title: Borat: Gift of Pornographic Monkey to Vice Premiere Mikhael Pence to Make Benefit Recently Diminished Nation of Kazakhstan. Let us remind you that the full title of the original tape, released in 2006, was Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan. With a budget of $18 million, the original Borat grossed $262,5 million worldwide. The film was nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay at the Oscars.
In the new sequel, Sacha Baron Cohen will return to Kazakhstani television personality Borat Sagdiyev. As the title suggests, one of the main themes of the plot will be US policy's state during the era of President Donald Trump. In addition, given the production timeline, it is likely that the film will also have a lot of talk about American life in the unprecedented circumstances of the coronavirus and the 2020 elections.
