Twitter Is Rebranding Its Super Follows Feature as Subscriptions
Elon Musk announced on Twitter that the social media platform now offers content monetization options for creators again.
Namely, the company rebranded its monetized content program from Super Follows to simply Subscriptions, but it is largely the same as when it was initially launched in 2021. Super Follows allowed users to subscribe to individual users to get access to some exclusive content from that creator, such as tweets, special subscriber badges, or subscriber-only Spaces.
Users can access the feature through the Monetization tab in settings to start monetizing content. Creators can now charge $2.99, $4.99, or $9.99/month for exclusive content.
Furthermore, the rebranded option does not limit people to 280 characters anymore: instead, they can release any material, from long-form text to hours-long video, according to Elon Musk.
According to Musk, Twitter will not take a cut of creators' earnings for the first year – only app stores' processing fees will be charged. Creators can expect 70 percent of their earnings from mobile and about 92 percent from web-based subscriptions.
Subscriptions are currently only available in the United States for select users who meet the minimum eligibility criteria of being 18 or older, having at least 10K followers, and having tweeted at least 25 times over the last 30 days.
Twitter also increased the character limit per tweet from 4,000 to 10,000 for Twitter Blue subscribers and the option to add bold and italic text formatting on the web is now also available to users.
