Epic Games Launches a #FreeFortnite Cup With Anti-Apple Prizes
Due to the dispute with Apple, Epic Games decided to announce the #FreeFortnite championship with anti-Apple prizes. The battles will start on August 23, 2020.
Epic Games implemented its own payment system to Fortnite, violating Apple's policies. That's why Apple removed Fortnite from the App Store and now plans to terminate Epic's access to the Apple Developer program completely. In revenge, Epic Games started to fight with Apple by suing the company, as well as released a "Nineteen Eighty-Fortnite" video based on Apple's famous 1984 ad, and began promoting the #FreeFortnite hashtag.
"These are the final days of the entire Fortnite community's ability to play together. Apple has blocked Fortnite from the App Store, preventing players from updating to new versions. Players on iOS devices will be left behind on Chapter 2 – Season 3 while everyone else jumps into the Chapter 2 – Season 4 launch on August 27," Fortnite developers noted.
In-game Compete tab players can find the start time of the event in the player's current region. While the tournament is running, players will be able to select the #FreeFortnite Cup from the list of game modes. For four hours, participants of the #FreeFortnite Cup will fight for prizes. It will be possible to participate as a solo player in up to 12 matches.
As a reward, players will receive in-game skin of the evil-looking apple featured in Epic's "Nineteen Eighty-Fortnite" video or a "Free Fortnite" hat.
There will also be 1,200 pieces of non-iOS gaming electronics, including Alienware Gaming Laptop, Samsung Galaxy Tab S7, OnePlus 8, PlayStation 4 Pro, Xbox One X, Nintendo Switch.
Epic Games also published info on how mobile players can keep access to the game and play Chapter 2 – Season 4.
