Uber to Reportedly Lay off 200 Employees From Its Recruitment Division

Uber Technologies has announced that it will be reducing its recruitment division by laying off 200 employees, which accounts for approximately 35% of the team. The company is aiming to keep its staff count flat throughout the year and streamline costs, according to Reuters.

The affected recruiters represent less than 1% of Uber's global workforce, which currently stands at 32,700 employees. Earlier this year, the company laid off 150 employees from its freight services division, Uber Freight. Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, Uber has reduced its workforce by 17%.

Uber's competitor Lyft has also been reducing its workforce in recent months. In April, Lyft laid off 1,072 employees, approximately a quarter of its staff, and an additional 700 employees were let go the previous year.
