WhatsApp Will Soon Allow Using the Same Account on Multiple Devices
WhatsApp, one of the most popular messaging platforms, is reportedly testing a new feature that will allow users to use one account on two or more devices.
So far, it has not been possible to use multiple devices per account in a Facebook-owned messenger, while its other rivals, like Telegram, provided users with such an opportunity. Therefore, the news about the future rolling out of the long-awaited feature is quite exciting. The company is said to be making its development a priority.
The rumors about the possible use of the same WhatsApp account on multiple devices appeared last year, but now it seems like the company will soon implement a new function. The confirmation was found in a recent beta version of the app, with an index of 2.20.110 of those who are a part of the WhatsApp Beta testing program.
As discovered by WABetaInfo in the recent beta update, users will get a security notification about changing the list of devices on which the current account is activated, as well as about the change of their encryption key as a result. The new function is pretty simple to enable, and it will let users seamlessly switch between at least phones and tablets.
The company will likely introduce the new feature in the near future. However, it is unknown whether the feature will be cross-platform.
Another thing discovered in the beta version is the updated self-destructing feature. The self-destructing messages have been renamed to “Expiring messages,” meaning that users will be able to send messages that would disappear at a predetermined point.
In general, WhatsApp has been quite active lately. At first, it introduced the highly anticipated dark mode feature for both iOS and Android devices, and then the messenger launched a chatbot with up-to-date, reliable data on the COVID-19, developed in cooperation with the WHO.
