Zoom Introduces Notes for Seamless Meeting Collaboration
Zoom, the popular video conferencing platform, is making strides to transform into a comprehensive office suite. Their latest addition, the Notes feature, allows users to create, share, and edit text documents collaboratively within the platform.
Notes appears alongside the video call window in Zoom, making it convenient for users to take notes and make edits during a meeting without the need to switch to a different screen. Zoom envisions this as a valuable tool for meeting preparation and follow-up. Users can create meeting agendas, edit them in real-time during the call, and share them afterward with colleagues who might have missed the meeting or need reminders.
Darin Brown, Head of Productivity Applications at Zoom, explains, "We wanted to offer a clean user experience that allows users to create agendas and notes while staying within the Zoom platform instead of jumping to other content management tools. With Notes, it's seamless to create and share personal and collaborative notes in and out of meetings."
Zoom faces strong competition from tech giants like Google and Microsoft, both of which have significantly improved their video conferencing services. Customers using Google Workspace or Microsoft 365 already have access to email, calendars, notes, video calls, and team chat—all within a single ecosystem. Zoom's challenge is to build competitive features quickly enough to retain its user base, even as Google and Microsoft's offerings become increasingly appealing.
