Apple Unveils the iPhone 12 Line With Brand-New Design and 5G
As previously expected, Apple held a presentation of the iPhone 12 line on October 13. The presentation showed several new iPhone models, including iPhone 12, iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12 Pro, and iPhone 12 Pro Max, but some details about the new gadgets appeared long before the presentation. Now we know exactly what awaits the buyers of the new line's most expensive iPhones.
The iPhone 12 has a brand-new design and support the 5G technology. It features flat edges that resemble the iPhone 4 and iPhone 5. The standard 6.1-inch model has two rear cameras, both of which support night mode. According to apple, the whole iPhone 12 lineup now has a new “Ceramic Shield” cover that makes the screen more durable.
The iPhone 12 mini looks the same but is smaller and has a 5.4-inch edge-to-edge screen. Its specs are similar to those of the base model as well.
iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 mini will be available in 64GB, 128GB, and 256GB models in blue, green, black, white, and (PRODUCT)RED starting at $799 and $699, respectively.
Apart from the base iPhone 12 model as well as iPhone 12 mini, Apple also unveiled the iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max.
New iPhones got an updated Pro Design. The body still consists of a steel frame and glass panels at the front and back. The sides have changed and are now flat like they were in iPhones 4.
iPhone can now be submerged 6 meters underwater for up to 30 minutes. Also, magnets for induction MagSafe charging stations have been added to the smartphone, and the new iPhone can be charged even if it is in Apple's branded case.
The Pro model now comes in four color options: Silver, Graphite, Gold, and Pacific Blue. New iPhones are lighter and thinner. The dimensions of the new products are: 146.7 × 71.5 × 7.4 mm and 189 grams for the iPhone 12 Pro, and 160.8 × 78.1 × 7.4 mm and 228 grams for the iPhone Pro Max model.
Both flagship models' screens received 6.1 and 6.7-inches diagonals, making the biggest screen on iPhone ever. The iPhone 12 Pro has a resolution of 2532 × 1170 pixels (470 ppi), and the larger screen features 2778 × 1284 pixels (458 ppi). And of course, these are OLED matrices with a contrast ratio of 2,000,000:1 and a maximum brightness of 1,200 nits.
The Super Retina XDR display supports the already well-established True Tone and Haptic Touch technologies and displays images in the Wide Color P3 color space.
The minimum memory for Apple flagships is now 128 GB, and both subsequent levels of capacity have remained 256 GB and 512 GB. So, the basic version of the iPhone 12 Pro costs $999, followed by a rise in the price for more storage: $1,099 and $1,299. And the iPhone 12 Pro Max will cost $1,099, $1,199 and $1,399.
Apple still does not indicate the exact battery capacity, but the column "Autonomy" says that the new models can play video for 11 and 12 hours, and play audio for up to 65 and 80 hours, respectively. At the same time, fast charging is supported, but you will have to buy a more powerful power supply or charge the smartphone from a laptop power supply. Apple removed the charging brick and earphones from its iPhone 12 boxes, it shows company's environmental goals. And from now, USB-C-to-Lightning cables are shipped with the iPhone, making fast charging easier for MacBook's owners.
The cameras in the iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max have been improved. They now support Deep Fusion technology and night mode, which allows improving the quality of photos taken in low light.
All four smartphone cameras can now shoot 4K video up to 60 frames per second, including HDR video with Dolby Vision up to 30 frames per second.
Later this year, Apple is promising to add support for the new Apple ProRAW format to the iPhone 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max, which should combine the power of uncompressed RAW with Apple's computer photography technology. The company says the user will have more control over color, detail, and dynamic range when processing Apple ProRAW images right on the iPhone.
