Twitter Blue Subscribers Can Now Write 4,000-Character Tweets
Subscribers of Twitter Blue, an active subscription that adds a blue checkmark to your account and offers early access to new features, can now post longer tweets. Paid subscribers can create tweets of up to 4,000 characters long instead of the previous 280-character limit. As of February 10, the new feature is available in the United States only.
The current 280-character limit was introduced in 2017, replacing the previous one of 140 characters.
In the feed, tweets longer than 280 characters will appear as regular ones: any extra content will be hidden beyond the "show more" prompt:
"but don't worry, Twitter is still Twitter. we know longer Tweets could mean a lot of scrolling, so they'll be capped at 280 characters on your timeline and you'll see a “Show more” prompt to click and read the whole Tweet," the social media platform explained.
The limit also applies to replies to tweets and quotes. However, there are still a few restrictions: extended tweets cannot be saved to drafts and scheduled for later. Non-Blue subscribers will also be able to interact with such posts as normal.
In the future, it is expected that Twitter will introduce the ability to add advanced formatting to the posts, including highlighting words in bold and changing the font size.
