iOS Users Will Soon Be Able to Play Fortnite via Nvidia Geforce Now Streaming Service

IOS device owners will be able to play Fortnite via the GeForce Now cloud gaming service. Nvidia has officially announced GeForce Now's release for iOS. According to journalists, it will happen before mid-December.

Apple regulations require cloud gaming companies to present each game name in the catalog as a separate Apple viewing app. According to the rules, the main directory application must provide links to individual games. This requirement creates an obstacle to interoperability with cloud games that companies provide to their users.

However, Nvidia has developed a version of the GeForce Now service that runs in the Safari browser. Unlike Android, Apple does not allow games or other apps to be loaded on its devices via other stores.

But it does not restrict which third-party services can run within Safari or other web browsers available via its store. For example, the Amazon Luna cloud gaming service operates the same. Fortnite is likely to be on the list of supported games in GeForce Now.

Other cloud services such as Google Stadia, Microsoft xCloud, and Amazon Luna also have Safari versions. However, no platform supports Fortnite, so GeForce is the only way to play the game on Apple devices.

After Apple removed the popular game Fortnite from the App Store, it became impossible to download it on iOS. Some iPad and iPhone owners started to sell their used devices with Fortnite installed on eBay, but gamers found another way to install the game on iOS.

The companies are still suing because Epic violated Apple's policies by creating its payment system and claiming that the 30% commission Apple charges on in-game purchases is anti-competitive. After that, Apple removed Fortnight from the App Store.

The next trial on the Epic Games and Apple's case is scheduled for May 3, 2021.
