Meta Finally Launches a Full-Featured Web Version of Its Threads App

Meta has finally introduced a highly-anticipated web version of its Threads app, marking a significant move to rival competitors like X (former Twitter). This new web version offers users the ability to post content, interact with posts, and explore their feeds. The news was announced by Instagram head Adam Mosseri in a Threads post.

Previously, the web version primarily allowed users to view others' profiles, without the capability to interact. With this update, Threads on the web now provides a more interactive experience, enabling users to engage with posts and make comments.

Meta’s Twitter Competitor Threads Is Now Live
Instagram head Adam Mosseri emphasized the opportunity to build something open and beneficial for the existing Instagram community. With familiar features like liking and commenting, Threads allows users to engage with their network seamlessly.

The web interface is similar to the mobile app, with a few differences in the arrangement of components. Notably, navigation icons are located at the top of the page, and there is a switch option between the "For You" and "Following" feeds in the bottom-left corner.

Although the web experience currently lacks certain functionalities available in the mobile app, such as profile editing and direct messaging posts to Instagram, the Threads team has confirmed that they plan to enhance the web version's capabilities over time.

Twitter Rebrands Itself as X as the Blue Bird Logo Disappears
The new X logo, stylized in black and white, has replaced the bird logo both on the web and mobile versions. Musk envisions the new X platform as an “everything app” that will combine communication, multimedia exchange, and financial transactions.

To access the web version, users can log in using their Instagram credentials. A QR code for downloading the app on iOS and Android devices is also provided on the website.

Threads, which gained over 100 million subscribers in just five days following its July 5 release, faced a significant drop in users soon after the initial hype. This new web version is expected to rekindle interest in the Threads app by offering enhanced functionality and accessibility to a broader audience.
