Facebook made this decision due to the spread of misinformation about COVID-19 by Nicholas Maduro. The politician advertised "miracle drugs" on Facebook, which are supposedly capable of curing coronavirus. This statement was not supported by doctors.

The company now says it is ready to partner with news outlets and promote quality journalism. Facebook has already announced future collaboration agreements with a number of UK and US publishers.

Facebook and the Australian authorities agreed to make four amendments to the bill. They suggest that once the law enters into force, Australian authorities will have to notify digital platforms one month in advance that they must comply with the new law.
