Every year, the Ohio National Guard’s 180th Fighter Wing celebrates individuals whose exceptional leadership and contributions make them stand out. Among these remarkable Airmen is Staff Sgt. Enya Martinez, whose passion for public health has fortified the operations of the 180th Fighter Wing.

An Unwavering Commitment

Martinez, a specialized public health expert, is critical to safeguarding the Airmen’s well-being. Her responsibilities range from conducting critical kitchen inspections to prevent foodborne illnesses, to ensuring maternity procedures are up to par. Her attention to detail has made healthy living on base a reality. “When I catch an issue, it feels good—illness prevention is serious,” Martinez shares.

Pioneering Health Initiatives

The work environment can be challenging, but innovation is a hallmark of Martinez’s approach. She spearheaded the setup of lactation rooms around the base and manages an impactful entomology program. By analyzing potential disease-carrying insects, she mitigates health risks for everyone on the base.

Beyond the Uniform

Her leadership extends into civilian life. As a marketing manager at a local piercing shop, Martinez organized fundraising events, directing proceeds to worthy causes such as the Center of Hope and cancer research. Her passion for community service echoes through her volunteerism, advocating for the Central Ohio Sexual Assault Education Alliance and DACA programs.

Academic and Community Excellence

Besides her professional commitments, Martinez achieved academic distinction by graduating magna cum laude in strategic communication from The Ohio State University, while balancing her busy military, academic, and volunteer activities.

A Model Airman

“Martinez is a well-rounded Airman, striving for excellence in all areas,” observes Master Sgt. Angela Delgado. Her story is not just about awards or achievements but a testament to dedication’s impact in both military and civilian spheres. According to DVIDS, Martinez embodies the highest standards set forth by the 180th Fighter Wing.
