Los Angeles PORTL Company Created At-Home Hologram Machines
Los Angeles-based company PORTL has created phone booth-sized machines to send real-time holograms to your living room. The device produced by PORTL Inc allows users to talk with another person's life-size hologram in real-time. The machines can also be equipped with technology to enable interaction with recorded holograms of historical figures or relatives who have passed away.
"We are able to connect military families that haven't seen each other in months, people from opposite coasts," said Chief Executive David Nussbaum.
The device has a built-in screen, speakers, and a video camera. Anyone can create a hologram if you have a white background and a camera. At the same time, the equipment is quite bulky and expensive. Each PORTL device is 2.1m high, 1.5m wide and 0.6m deep. The minimum cost of such a device is $60,000. For the support of artificial intelligence, you will have to pay another $25,000.
According to David Nussbaum, he expects a device of this size to fall in price over the next three to five years. In early 2021, PORTL is set to launch a cheaper and smaller tabletop device version of the holographic system.
