Google’s Sweet 21st Birthday

The search engine Google is 21 today. To this day, the reason why exactly this day was chosen to celebrate the most popular web search engine’s birthday remains a mystery.

Google was created in 1998 as a university project by two Stanford students, Larry Page and Sergey Brin. It is only known that google.com domain was registered on the 15th of September, 1997. Sergey Brin and Larry Page officially registered Google Inc. on the 7th of September, 1998.

Although nobody knows why Google’s birthday is on the 27th of September, the team of The Internet Protocol sincerely congratulates Google with adult age. On this day, we would love to identify some of the company’s distinctive features.

  1. On the first Friday at work, every new Google employee has to wear a propeller beanie cap.
  2. Google home page is fairly unsophisticated because its founders didn’t really know HTML well at that time they were creating Google.
  3. There’s much grass within the company’s territory. Therefore, Google once decided to hire goats to trim the lawns. Nearly two hundred goats are brought to the company’s territory for a week to clean up the yard. Besides, the goats don’t make any noise and do not pollute the air, unlike lawnmowers.
  4. There’s a Tyrannosaurus Rex skeleton set on Google’s campus in California. It reminds the employees that they can’t let the company die out.
  5. If a Google employee passes away, that employee’s family receives half of his/her salary for 10 years.

It is also of interest that last year a Russian search engine Yandex congratulated its competitor on the 20th anniversary. Furthermore, it was not just a congratulation, but they even changed the color scheme of the Yandex sign to match the Google logo.
