As planned, Steam released Half-Life: Alyx on March 23. It is the first game in the Half-Life universe since Half-Life 2: Episode 2 that was released in 2007. The game became available for pre-load on March 20.

Half-Life: Alyx is a virtual reality shooter that was developed with support for VR headsets, including Valve Index, Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, and Windows Mixed Reality.

The game tells about the events taking place between the first and second parts of the Half-Life universe. It's the story of an impossible fight against a vicious alien race known as the Combine.

Playing for Alyx Vance, you are humanity's only chance for survival. The Combine's control of the planet since the Black Mesa incident has only strengthened as they corral the remaining population in cities. Among them are some of Earth's greatest scientists: you and your father, Dr. Eli Vance.

As founders of a fledgling resistance, you've continued your clandestine scientific activity—performing critical research and building invaluable tools for the few humans brave enough to defy the Combine.

The playthrough of the game will take about 15 hours. With this game, you will plunge into vivid interactions with the environment, solving puzzles, exploring the world, and instinctive battles.

Here are Half-Life: Alyx system requirements:

  • 12 GB of RAM
  • A graphics card of GTX 1060 / RX 580 or higher
  • CPU i5-7500 / Ryzen 5 1600 or more productive
  • A VR helmet that supports Steam VR

At the same time, the embargo on the publication of reviews that have already filled the network was lifted. Everyone praises the new Half-Life, calling it the flagship virtual reality project that everyone has been waiting for.

At the time of publication of this article, the game’s score reached 93 points on Metacritic, and 92 points out of 100 on OpenCritic.

The fact that Half-Life: Alyx expected huge success was understandable from the very beginning, though. Now, the main question is how successful the new Half-Life will be and how long it is to wait for new projects of the Half-Life universe.
