Developer CD Projekt Red announced a brand-new AR game called The Witcher: Monster Slayer, a free-to-play mobile game from The Witcher universe, available to iOS and Android users.
The RPG game was developed and published by Spokko, the newest member of the CD Projekt Family set to work on projects targeting mobile devices.
The Witcher: Monster Slayer lets players imagine themselves being professional monster hunters, tracking foul creatures, and taking them down with swords in augmented reality right through their smartphones.
It’s a location-based roleplaying AR-game that offers players to “venture out into the world around you and use your mobile device to track witcher-world monsters that roam close-by. Track these monsters and prepare for combat using time of day, weather conditions, and your witcher knowledge to gain an advantage on your quest to becoming an elite monster slayer,” as the description of the trailer on YouTube reads.
The announcement of The Witcher: Monster Slayer also says:
Monster Slayer lets players explore the world around them while tracking, studying, and fighting monsters both new and familiar, using time of day and real-life weather conditions to gain the upper hand. Preparation is key in order to defeat tougher enemies, as players will need to brew powerful potions and oils, craft bombs and monster bait, and upgrade their character before putting these beasts to the sword and signs in first-person AR combat.
Moreover, the new game also features various quests inspired by other games from the series.
The Witcher franchise, in general, has been extremely popular lately because of the Netflix series.
Although the exact release date has not yet been confirmed, it is expected to be out this year on Android and iOS.
