International Men's Day is an annual event held on the 19th of November. The purpose of the event is to promote basic humanitarian values focusing on the health and welfare of boys and men, while highlighting positive male role models, promoting gender equality, and to condemn discrimination against boys and men. Over 70 countries participate in this event.
In February of 1991, men's rights advocate Thomas Oaster proposed the creation of an annual holiday to celebrate the contributions men have made to society. The following year, the first Internation Men's Day was held in Kansas City, Missouri, on February 8th.
