The Egg Benedict dish is made of poached eggs and bacon on an English muffin. This dish was invented in New York, and it has become so popular that the United States now even celebrates National Egg Benedict Day on April 16.

Eggs Benedict is a classic breakfast and favorite brunch considered the perfect hangover cure. Ironically, the dish was created for this very purpose: to get rid of the aftermath of a fun night out.

In any case, Wall Street Broker Lemuel Benedict said so. He said that in 1894, he visited the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in search of a cure for a morning hangover. He ordered a combination of poached eggs and bacon on toast topped with Hollandaise sauce.

Headwaiter Oscar Tschirky was so impressed with this order that he immediately added it to the menu, replacing bacon with ham and toast with English muffin. He allegedly named the dish after the inventor, and that's how Eggs Benedict appeared.
