A Chinese company Xiaomi is actively developing a line of smartphones with support for fifth-generation mobile communications (5G). By the end of this year, the company will have at least one low-cost device for 5G networks announced.
Xiaomi began selling its first 5G smartphone in the European market last May. Now, the assortment of the company includes the following models with support for fifth-generation networks: Mi 9 Pro 5G, Mi 10 5G, Mi 10 Pro 5G, Redmi K30 5G, Redmi K30 Pro 5G, Redmi K30 Pro Zoom Edition.
The Redmi K30i 5G smartphone, which is a simplified version of the Redmi K30 5G model, is expected to debut at the end of April already. According to the information available for now, the price of the new items will be about 250 US dollars.
In June, Xiaomi will release another smartphone for 5G networks: it may be the Redmi Note 9 5G device. The price of $230 is forecasted.
Finally, a presentation of the entry-level 5G smartphone is planned for November. It will be offered at an estimated price of 140-145 US dollars.
Earlier last fall, Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun said that a $140 5G smartphone would become a reality by 2021.
It should be noted that this year, the rate of development of the 5G smartphone market will be below forecasts due to the spread of coronavirus. Amid the pandemic, consumers around the world began to buy new smartphones much less frequently.
