Sony has officially announced the PlayStation 5 Pro, set to launch on November 7, 2024, at a price of $700. The new console boasts significant upgrades over the standard PS5, with a focus on improved performance, graphics, and AI-driven enhancements.
Mark Cerny, the lead architect of PlayStation, highlighted the PS5 Pro’s enhanced GPU, which has 67% more compute units and 28% faster memory, resulting in 45% faster rendering and smoother gameplay.
One of the standout features of the PS5 Pro is its advanced ray tracing, allowing for up to three times faster processing compared to the original PS5. Additionally, Sony introduced its new PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution technology, which uses AI to upscale images for sharper clarity and improved frame rates.
The PS5 Pro also supports Wi-Fi 7 and offers 8K resolution capabilities, along with a 2TB SSD for expanded storage. Notably, the console does not come with a built-in disc drive, but a separate drive will be available for purchase. The PS5 Pro is compatible with more than 8,500 PS4 games and includes a "Game Boost" option to improve performance for older titles.
Pre-orders for the PS5 Pro will begin on September 26, 2024, with many popular games like Alan Wake 2, Spider-Man 2, and Gran Turismo 7 receiving free updates to take advantage of the new hardware.
