At its annual Connect conference, Meta revealed its first working prototype of augmented reality (AR) glasses, named Orion. These advanced AR glasses overlay holograms onto real-world objects, allowing users to interact with their environment in new and immersive ways.
Orion is equipped with custom processors developed by Meta, smart displays, and the company’s AI system, Meta AI. Users can control the glasses through voice commands, eye movements, and hand gestures, which are tracked using a neural wristband. One standout feature of Orion is its ability to suggest recipes by analyzing the ingredients visible in front of the user.
Although the device is not yet ready for mass production, Meta aims to make it smaller and more affordable before releasing it to consumers. The company expects the first consumer models to be available by 2027, though for now, Orion will be used internally by Meta employees for further testing and development.
By combining digital content with the physical world in a lightweight, everyday wearable device, Meta is positioning Orion to be a key player in the future of human-computer interaction.
