Some of Facebook’s social media accounts, including @Facebook and @Messenger Twitter accounts as well as @Facebook and @Instagram accounts, were hacked by a Saudi Hacking Group OurMine on Friday. Earlier, this group was responsible for hacking about half of the official Twitter accounts of the NFL’s teams right before the Super Bowl. OurMine also compromised HBO and the New York Times accounts.

On Facebook’s Twitter account, the team posted tweets that read:

Hi, we are O u r M i n e.
Well, even Facebook is hackable but at least their security better than Twitter.

Meanwhile, hacked Instagram’s account posted photos of OurMine logo.
Twitter confirmed that the accounts were accessed through a third-party platform and locked them after the issue was discovered.

Twitter’s spokesperson said, “As soon as we were made aware of the issue, we locked the compromised accounts and are working closely with our partners at Facebook to restore them.”

Facebook confirmed as well that its accounts were taken over.

All accounts affected by the breach were accessed via the Khoros platform – a social media management software for businesses. Therefore, it’s important to note that neither Facebook nor Twitter were hacked – the Khoros platform was, and it can publish Instagram posts.

This incident raised serious concerns regarding security in social networks.
