Ken Hyers, a director for the emerging device strategies at Strategy Analytics, comments that Apple AirPods are the dominant Bluetooth headset in the fully wireless headphone segment in terms of sales and revenue. He is confident that this situation will last at least until the middle of the decade.
Apple’s leadership in this category is not surprising since the Cupertino-based company actually founded the TWS-headset industry with the introduction of the first AirPods in 2016. At the moment, they occupy more than 50% of the market in sales. In 2019, the total revenue in the TWS category increased by 200%, of which Apple accounted for 71%. Experts are confident that by 2024, wholesale revenues will amount to more than $100 billion.
Xiaomi and Samsung, occupying the second and third places, respectively, each have 10% of the market share. After Xiaomi updates Redmi AirDots, and Samsung introduces the second generation of Galaxy Buds, making them Galaxy Buds+, the companies have every chance to get closer to the leader’s results.
