Google Launches Pixel 8a Budget-Friendly Smartphone with Advanced AI
Google has launched the Pixel 8a, its latest addition to the affordable A-series, featuring high-end AI capabilities and a significantly brighter display. Breaking away from its usual reveal at the Google I/O event, the tech giant introduced the smartphone early, boasting a fresh mint color alongside the traditional hues.
The Pixel 8a sports a 6.1-inch OLED display with a 1080 x 2400 resolution and a 120 Hz refresh rate, which is 40% brighter than its predecessor, reaching up to 2,000 nits. Protected by Gorilla Glass 3, the device merges durability with elegance, featuring rounded edges, a matte cashmere-like back, and an aluminum frame.
Powering the device is Google’s latest Tensor G3 processor, accompanied by 8 GB of RAM and options for 128 or 256 GB of storage. The smartphone operates on Android 14 and retains its robust dual-camera setup with a 64-megapixel main and a 13-megapixel ultra-wide camera, both capable of leveraging Google's advanced AI features for photo processing.
Additionally, the Pixel 8a includes IP67 water resistance, a 4492 mAh battery supporting Qi wireless charging, and a variety of connectivity options including USB Type-C, Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.3, and NFC.
Available for pre-order in the U.S. at $499 for the 128 GB model, the Pixel 8a sets a new standard for budget-friendly smartphones by incorporating flagship features at an accessible price point.
