On 19th of September in Munich, Huawei unveiled new Mate 30 and Mate 30 Pro smartphones. Due to the Trump sanctions, now Huawei smartphones will have the Android OS but without Google services.
Camera
Both smartphones received cameras from Leica. The camera module has a futuristic and striking “Halo ring design.” The night mode has been improved. The company also worked on the modernization of the wide-angle format, color processing, and the portrait mode improvements.
The base Mate 30 has a 16MP ultra-wide module, a 40MP wide and a three-fold-wide telephoto lens. Besides, the device received a laser focus sensor. The basic Mate 30 can record slow-mo HD video at 960 fps, and the front-facing camera has a resolution of 24 MP.
The flagship Mate 30 Pro also received three modules: a 40MP ultra-wide, 40MP wide with optical stabilisation and ISO to 409,600, and an 8MP 3MP telephoto lens with a three-fold magnification sensor and a 3D depth sensor (ToF). The aperture of the ultra-wide lens is f/1.6, the wide one has f/1.8, and the TV has f/2.4. The cameras work with dual optical and software stabilisation. The device can shoot 4K video in 60 fps, as well as HD video in slow-mo up to 7,620 frames per second.
Display
The Mate 30 received a flat OLED-screen at 6.62" resolution of 2,340x1,080, and the Mate 30 Pro received a screen at 6.53" with a resolution of 2,400x1,176 and rounded at 88 degrees corners all the way to the back cover. The flagship doesn’t have any physical buttons except the main power button. The company offers to use virtual volume buttons, which can be assigned to any of the facets of the screen.
The sound comes directly from the screen thanks to Huawei Acoustic Display Technology. The Mate 30 Pro has a panel on top that is equipped with a 32MP front-facing camera with an f/2.0 aperture sensor and an eye-recognition sensor that allows you to hide content if someone else is looking at it.
Hardware Details
Smartphones run by an 8-core Huawei Kirin 990 processor and in one of the device configurations it has a built-in 5G modem. The Mate 30 Pro has only 21 antennas, 14 of which are 5G.
Onboard the flagship 8GB of RAM and 128/256 GB of constant, Mate 30 has 6/8GB of RAM and 128 GB of permanent memory. Inside the new products are two-band Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5 and NFC, as well as a hybrid slot: you can install either two nanoSIM cards or instead of a second NM Card to expand memory.
Battery Capacity
Mate 30 version achieved a 4,200 mAh battery and the Mate 30 Pro for 4,500 mAh. New products support fast wired charging at 40 W or up to 27 W wirelessly. New-gen Mate series is protected from dust and moisture, according to the standard of IP67 standard at the flagship and IP63 at the base version.
Both new products will go on sale with the shell EMUI 10, based on Android Q, but without Google services. The company did not say anything about the conflict with the American authorities at the presentation but stressed that the devices would have a common AppGallery app store. Google users can install Google services on their own by downloading them from the web.
Price
The Huawei Mate 30 in the 8/128GB configuration will cost €800, while the Mate 30 Pro in the 8/256 GB configuration will cost €1,100. The 5G version of the Mate 30 Pro will cost you €1,200. The limited flagship version of the Porsche Design Mate 30 RS will cost around €2,100 - in addition to the unique design, the new product will have 12GB of RAM and 512GB of permanent storage.
