Microsoft co-founder and a regular member of the RedditGifts Challenge, Bill Gates, is a "Secret Santa" for one of Reddit users again. This year, the lucky one who received a gift from Santa Gates was a user with the nickname “szor,” who, in real life, is a 33-year-old Michigan woman named Shelby.
The girl received an 81-pound parcel from Bill Gates, in which there were 41 gifts, and they were not chosen randomly – Gates chose them on the basis of the woman’s interests. He studied Shelby's profile in detail and found out about her preferences in books, films, TV shows, and even about her pet.
The parcel had a Harry Potter Santa hat and a giant Hogwarts castle in it, plus an R2D2 puzzle that is no longer available for sale. The ecstatic woman also got a handmade quilt depicting scenes from Nintendo's iconic Legend of Zelda video game series. A crate was also filled with the Twin Peaks show memorabilia, including an embroidered L.L. Bean jacket worn by one of the crew members. Among her unique Christmas presents, there also were several boxes of Oreos, cat treats, and a hammock.
Being a huge fan of The Great Gatsby, she also got a priceless gift – a manuscript copy of F. Scott Fitzgerald's famous work of fiction, complete with scans of the author's handwritten notes. “'The Great Gatsby' is my favorite novel. I had some lines from 'Great Gatsby' in my wedding vows. So this really is a special book to me and it is the most fancy book I have ever seen,” Shelby said.
Perhaps the most touching gift from Santa Gates was a donation for an undisclosed amount that he made to the American Heart Association in honor of Shelby's mother, who passed away in March.
