Eurovision: Europe Shine a Light Will Be Broadcasted on May 16

The 65th Eurovision Song Contest was supposed to be held at Ahoy Arena in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, between May 12 and 16. But organizers of the Eurovision Song Contest had to cancel the event because of the ongoing spread of the coronavirus infection.

The website of the contest has published an appeal to all broadcasters who were supposed to take part in the Eurovision Song Contest this year, and to the EBU (European Broadcasting Union) members in other countries to broadcast this show.

Eurovision: Europe Shine A Light will honor all 41 songs, in a non-competitive format, as well as providing plenty of surprises for fans and viewers at home. The show will be hosted by Dutch Eurovision presenters Chantal Janzen, Edsilia Rombley (Eurovision 1998 and 2007), and Jan Smit.

The show is expected to last about two hours. The organizers will announce a detailed list of artists and broadcasters who will air the show in the coming weeks. It is already known that the concert will be shown on Eurovision’s YouTube channel.

Sietse Bakker, Executive Producer Event of what would have been the 65th Eurovision Song Contest said:

We want to make a show that puts a spotlight not only on the 41 artists that were due to appear in Rotterdam but also inspire those at home and connect people from across Europe and beyond in these difficult times. Of course, we will also honour those who are affected by the coronavirus crisis and those who work so hard to fight it. Let's make this an unforgettable moment in Eurovision history!
