Apple finally unveiled the upcoming successor to the original iPhone SE that was released in 2016. The new model received the same name and is called the iPhone SE.

All the recent leaks ended up to be completely reliable, and the new iPhone SE turned out exactly as expected. The new device got the traditional design in the style of the iPhone 8 with a proprietary Home button and a built-in Touch ID fingerprint scanner.

The new iPhone SE is an updated iPhone 8. The new item has the same screen – an IPS panel with a diagonal of 4.7 inches and a resolution of 1334x750 pixels with True Tone support and a maximum brightness of 625 cd/m2.

Moreover, even their weight and dimensions are the same. The new iPhone’s dimensions are 138.4x67.3x7.3 mm, and it weighs 148 grams. The new iPhone SE is now the Cupertino’s most compact and lightest smartphone.

At the same time, iPhone SE runs on the SoC A13 Bionic chip, which is also installed in the smartphones of the iPhone 11 line.

The main camera of the iPhone SE has a resolution of 12 megapixels and an aperture of F/1.8. Presumably, this is the same camera that is used in iPhone 11 smartphones. The camera supports the Smart HDR feature, which first debuted in the iPhone XS, as well as shooting video in 4K resolution at 60 frames per second. There is also support for portrait mode with the spectacular artistic blurring of the background, but it only works when shooting people.

Apple traditionally does not disclose exact data on the amount of RAM and battery capacity. At the same time, it is announced that the battery life of the iPhone SE lasts as long as that of the iPhone 8.

Besides, the new iPhone SE features wireless charging, Wi-Fi 6, support for two SIM cards (physical and eSIM), and dust and moisture protection according to the IP67 standard (30 minutes at a depth of a meter).

In the US, pre-orders for the iPhone SE will open on April 17, and actual sales will begin a week later on April 24 in more than 40 countries.

In the US, the cost of the basic version with 64 GB is $399. Versions with 128 GB and 256 GB will also be available for $450 and $550 accordingly.

Apple gives an annual subscription to the Apple TV+ service with movies and TV shows to each buyer of the new iPhone SE.

Along with the announcement of the new iPhone SE, the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus disappeared from the company’s website, which can be regarded as a stop of sales. It is not surprising, considering the fact that the new iPhone SE, as we have already noted, is a replacement for the iPhone 8.

Apart from introducing the new iPhone, Apple has recently teamed up with Google to help fight the onging coronavirus pandemic by tracing people's contacts with people infected with COVID-19.
